What is the proposed idea/solution?

If an email field is set to required on a form, the form should not allow the user to submit unless there is a valid (properly formatted) email address entered into the field.

How does is solve the user problems?

It allows form users to fix issues before submitting a form with invalid data. It helps the form owner ensure that the incoming data is correct. It makes it more likely that the form owner will be able to contact form users and e.g. send confirmation emails.

How was this validated?

People are expressing their frustration about the lack of this issue on a number of different threads in the Airtable forums.

Who is the target audience?

People creating sign-up forms or any form where the form submitter might need to be contacted as a result of submitting their info.

Hello @Celeste_Bancos

This is a common validation and basic functionality that most users need.

Most important is for now just apply this for the forms and then the required fields validation is also needed for all other fields on the "Data" side.

Hi everyone!

We agree this is a very much-needed feature for the Airtable email field. That's why we've built a solution in the miniExtensions FormBy default, our form ensures the email field only accepts valid addresses. Additionally, you can configure default values, apply regex validation, and enable features like automatic lowercase conversion.

For example, here’s a regex that only accepts Gmail addresses:

I would highly recommend checking out Fillout's advanced forms for Airtable, which allows you to either create or update records in Airtable with a form.

Fillout is 100% free, and it offers hundreds of advanced features that are not available with Airtable's native forms. Fillout gives tons of validation options that are all Airtable-specific.

It even gives you multiple options for validating email addresses, including the ability to verify email addresses in a number of different ways, including sending an email verification code to the user. And they have many other ways of validating email addresses as well, such as automatically "pinging" the email address to ensure that it is valid.

I gave a very brief demo of Fillout on this episode of the BuiltOnAir podcast.

Hope this helps! If you’d like to hire an expert Airtable consultant to help you with anything Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consultant — ScottWorld
