Airtable today supports the linking of one table to another via a field, but that field must be populated either by: Having the user key/select the appropriate value in the linked field Using a manual process to occasionally populate data (i.e. copy/paste) Using a 3rd party service like Zapier or Integromat to listen for record changes and populate the value Option 1 works, but can be annoyingly inefficient from a data entry perspective. Option 2 is too kludgy and isn’t practical for anything beyond a 1 time data population. Option 3 adds complexity and the need to learn/bring in another system. Ideally, there’d be a way to auto-populate the Linked Field using a formula. The linking would either find a correlated record in the linked table, or if none found, then create a new record.

What is the proposed idea/solution?Allow placing a record picker element in the record review interface layoutHow does is solve the user problems?I currently have to create a ton of linked record fields in the table when I could have just had a record picker element. I think this was available before the update, but I can't quite remember.

To get an overview for long-term project planning, a “Year view” in Calendar is needed.Gant charts aren’t usable for my usage case because every task needs to be on a different line.This way, information is scattered and I can’t get a decent overview.(If grouping items on a gant chart didn’t merge all of the different subitems into one big blurp but kept different tasks with their start and end dates on the same line… Yes, then it would be useful, then it would be great. - But that’s for a different feature request. I would like to request a feature enhancement for the "Update record" action when configuring buttons within Airtable. Currently, when setting up a button to update specific fields, it is only possible to select static, pre-defined values. However, there is no ability to set dynamic field updates based on values in other fields.For instance, in my use case, I want to assign the value of the Assignee field based on the value of another field, Approving Manager, but I can only select a specific user. This limitation makes it difficult to create flexible automations and workflows that can adjust dynamically based on the content of the record.Proposed Feature: I propose adding the ability to dynamically set the value of a field (like Assignee) based on the content of another field in the same record (like Approving Manager). Would be real convenient to have a "Run Automation now" button as a trigger option.I know there's the "test Automation button", but that doesn't work for repeating groups.And I know you can make an interface button, but switching pages and making that extra page is annoying. Same goes for running it on a scheduled time for 1 minute from now.And I know you can write a script and put it in the scripting extension which has a button like that, but no-code is easier.Manipulating the database with code is the main thing databases are still better than airtable in and if you could make that straight forward in a no-code way with Automations it might lead to even more mass adoption. I know this is not really automation, but rather just doing something in more of a programmatic way, but it could help a ton to edit multple records at once. 

When sharing in external places like iMessage or Slack that support a rich preview, it would be much more helpful if links to specific records or specific bases/views actually said in the preview what the name of the card or base/view was rather than every link always just saying “Airtable works like a spreadsheet but gives you the power of a database to organize anything. Sign up for free.”That way someone can see what we’re talking about before having to click the link. Alternately more readable url’s would be nice.

Hello @Airtable !I use Airtable heavily for my personal organization as well as for my business organization (in two different accounts).I often have situations where I need to open an Airtable link (especially on mobile) and find myself with a ‘would like like to request access to this base’ message when I already have access to the base through a different email/password login.This forces me to log out of Airtable, log back in with my other account and then go find the original record/base link again to access the right information.Being able to log into multiple Airtable accounts simultaneously (as I can with my google accounts, for example) and then choose which account I would like to open the link with wouldSave time finding the information I needIncrease my ability to collaborate with different groups using AirtableAs I think about the future of

Subject says all. It would be pretty neat to be able to resize the long text field edit window. A lot of times I want it to be just a little bit bigger so that my text doesn’t wrap.

I’ve been digging around the forums, and I’m not totally clear on the answer, so I’ll ask the question here. I have an existing Base with a Primary, unique field. I simply want to update the records via an import from a CSV which would require matching the columns and primary field. I do this all the time in QuickBase, but not sure if that’s possible here. Kind of a basic database function, IMO. Is that possible with Airtable? Thanks!

It seems the need for Airtable to have a system to prompt the user if a duplicate entry has been submitted would be a main requirement for users, particularly those using forms. For example, a user registration form, ensuring only a unique email had been used. I would imagine it would either be based on the primary column or even better, the option to tell Airtable which columns should not allow duplicate entries.At the moment I have to pay miniextensions over $400 a year just to have this function - a great product, but something I feel Airtable should include as standard. After-all, why should I have to use such plugins to achieve what I would deem basic requirements of a database type system like Airtable? 🙂

My idea is to have a function that would allow you to group, sort, or filter by the comments added by users. For example, we run a manufacturing company, and have several users in airtable communicating with each other and leaving notes on orders pertaining to updated project or customer information. A lot of times, this is for alerting others that something needs to be changed or updated, as not everybody is handling that specific task. What I’m interested in is having the ability to filter all of the projects we have so that users can only see projects that have comments attached to them from other users (or even themselves). As of right now, the only way to find these is to scroll through the list of current projects and look for the icon saying that something was noted / updated / changed. With over 600 projects, it’s a bit of a daunting task.

I'm using interfaces to surface training records for search and rescue dogs. Each discipline (human remains detection, live find, tracking/trailing) has different fields associated with it. I currently am working around this constraint by having multiple interface pages filtering by discipline so that I can have page templates for each discipline.I would love the ability to choose which page template a record opens in based on a condition of the record, so that I can have one page for all records. I think this would be valuable for other use cases as well! 

It would be very useful to be able to edit a lookup cell from either the source or destination table. Currently, if I’m working in a destination table and notice an error, missing information, or data that needs updating, I need to go to the source table and find the correct cell to edit that information. This is a challenge in a table with 107 columns! :bow_and_arrow: It would be much more convenient to be able to edit the information in the destination table and have the corrected information populate back to the source table.

I love the fact that, in Grid View, you can manually re-order records, and sort by a variety of criteria. But it would also be nice if you could sort and manually re-order GROUPS of records, when displaying in groups. Currently, the only option is an alphabetical sorting of groups. That just doesn’t work for our project management base, in which we commonly create views for a particular user, sorted by status (in progress, with client, on hold, etc) or by priority. It would be great to be able to put the most relevant groups at the top.

What is the proposed idea/solution?The "Editable" and "View only" button on Interface is very handy when limiting actions on an Interface; however, it would be much more convenient and better security/workflow-wise to limit specific fields/columns (especially on List and Grid) as "View only" or "Editable" directly rather than having all fields editable because it can be accidentally edited.How does this solve the user problems?Lesser human error when accidentally editing stuff on incorrect fields.Who is the target audience?Interface users.

The purpose is to visualize and compare sales verse target, but this is not effective if the left and right Y axis is on a different scale.How was this validated?By creating a chart with both a left and right Y axis.Who is the target audience?Anyone who is using the left and right y-axis to visually compare the values from the left Y axis with the right Y axis.

What is the proposed idea/solution?Currently in a list view in Airtable, a url field does not allow the url contained therein to be clicked. Clicking in the field only begins editing the field. Because of this, the only way to actually navigate to the url contained in the field is to either click on it from a grid view, or copy it from the field in the list view and paste it into the browser manually.Video here of current list view behavior vs. grid view.How does is solve the user problems?Rather than having to change views or copy and paste, allows the url to be used for its stated purposeWho is the target audience?All list view users.
