Automatic "back links" when self-linking a table — especially useful for org charts

This thread really highlighted the need for Airtable to automatically create “back links” (or “reverse links”) when you are creating a self-linking linked record field (i.e. a field relationship that links a table back to itself).All other linked record fields in Airtable automatically create these “back links” or “reverse links”, but they don’t get created when doing a self-relationship within a single table.This is especially crucial for using the Org chart block, which REQUIRES that you create a self-linking relationship within a table. The Org chart block doesn’t even support creating links between separate tables!You’ll notice in the Org chart demonstration video that there are 2 self-linked fields: “Direct Reports” and “Direct Supervisors”. All of that data had to be manually inputted & manually verified by the user, because there is no automatic way to have those 2 fields automatically communicate with each other.If you’re dealing with a very small number of records, it migh

Gantt Chart Custom Date Range

Currently the only options for date range of a Gantt chart is week, 2 weeks, month, quarter, year, 5 years. I think it would be better to have a custom option where you can put the duration you want (with an option to choose, weeks, months or years) and give it a start date. The gantt charts I've been making have been for a period of 1.5 years so 1 year doesn't fit it all and then 5 years makes everything super small. It's too large of a gap.

No-Code Automation Action to post comment to record

What is the proposed idea/solution?With the recent updates to the Airtable API being more featureful with Record Comments - it makes sense to also give some love to no-code Automation Actions, allowing an Automation to post to the Record Comments, either as an Automation or upon behalf of a specified user.How does is solve the user problems?Currently, for example, an Automation can use conditional logic to email an Airtable operator of an issue with a record. It would be useful if we had other options too, such as the Automation posting to the records comment detailing the problem with that record.Who is the target audience?Any firm using Record Comments will find a benefit from an Automation no-code Action that can also write to a records comments.

Please allow me to set a more precise zoom level on timeline

When in the timeline view, I often need to change start and end times on a record by 5 or 10 minutes at a time rather than 1 hour or 30 minute increments. It would be extremely helpful if i could drag the edge of a record more precisely than the 1 hour increments that are currently allowed rather than having to manually type in the time.  Also, it would be nice to be able to zoom in and out of the timeline using the mouse scroll wheel and have more precision on how much time is seen at once, rather than being limited to the standard day or week view.

Change decimal places on numbers in Interfaces

What is the proposed idea/solution?Feature to manually select decimal places on a number in Interfaces, similar to the number/format field.How does is solve the user problems?More options to show relevant data, either more detailed with more decimal places or more of an overview with less/none decimal places.Who is the target audience?Anyone using numbers in Interfaces.

Hide or condense "no records yet" in interfaces

What is the proposed idea/solution?Hide the large image/space in an interface when no records match a view's filters. Currently when there are no records, it actually takes up much more visual space than if there is one matching record. How does is solve the user problems?Hiding or condensing this visual would make it much easier for users/clients/readers to scroll a page quickly and see relevant information

Date field, adding day format

What is the proposed idea/solution?Would love for the date field to have a new format (Day, month/day/year).Example: Friday, September 19, 2024. How does is solve the user problems?It would be super helpful so folks aren't having to switch back and forth between a calendar to see which day lands on that specific date. Our team uses Airtable a lot, and we've been having to create a separate text line to write out the day of the week. Would be much easier if the date format included day. How was this validated? ...Who is the target audience?...

Interface background colors / fonts

The old interface layout allowed you to have 2 colors to pick from for the background. The new interface is only light grey. It would be very helpful to be able to have several background colors to pick from to distinguish key areas. It would be nice to be able to adjust fonts, bold, italic, etc.

Dynamic form dropdown

 Although it can be created with a lot of formulas and columns, it would be great if there was a filter to conditionally select the view of a linked record, based on a previous selection on the form. E.g: I have a list of countries and they have all been assigned to a Region. In that table I can create the views for each of the regions tho have the subset of countries, then, in the form I can have a dropdown for region, and, depending on the region selected, I would be able to map the views that should be used for the Countries dropdown. This would be a very easy and scalable way to create dynamic dropdowns in forms.Who is the target audience?Enterprise and everyone else

Consistent date spacing in bar charts

What is the proposed idea/solution?When using a bar chart, when a date field is selected as the X-axis, there should be an option to not only list all the dates for a record, but to think of that axis as a timeline, where all dates are represented not just ones that exist in a record.How does is solve the user problems?I want to track usage of an asset over time. The Y axis is usage in hours, the X axis is a date, the records contain a field for date and a single time for hours. There are many days when the asset is not used. I would like those blank days to be reflected in X-axis; I do not want to work around that would have a record for every day, records only exist for days where there is usage.How was this validated?...Who is the target audience?Users who have date fields whose records do not contain all of the dates in a given time period, who would like a true timeline view but for data that varies over time where a timeline chart is insufficient.

Form to edit existing record

Really. We need a form or an addition to the current form that allows for editing a current record as opposed to only being able to add a new record. I should be able to send a client a form that they can find their record in and update their data and not have it create a completely new record. Please. I hate that I've had to resort to paying another company in order to do this.

Send Interfaces periodically as email

I need a way to schedule interfaces to be sent periodically as an email. Our automations are being used up for sending weekly reports. This is removing the ability to replace manual business practices with efficient automations. Ideally, I'd like a feature to send email reports out from interfaces periodically to specific users and/or user groups.

Formatting options for text output from formula... e.g. Translate ALT+Enter into " \\n " for line breaks, bold or color text options

One of the most basic and best things I learned about Airtable is how to use " \n " to get the line breaks in a formula result. That makes it easy to format text in columns without need use gimmicks. Excel uses ALT+Enter and this one doesn’t work in AirTable. I suggest Airtable takes the input “ALT+Enter” on the keyboard and translates it into " \n ". That way more users benefit who may otherwise not know there is such a thing in Airtable.If I may take this a step further, perhaps adding formatting options would be neat. For example by adding /b for bold text in formula output. Widget Functional added to Overview Interface

What is the proposed idea/solution?Add the ability to insert Widgets into the new Overview Interfaces, or Add the Ability for Header Images and Bookmarks in Canvas InterfacesHow does is solve the user problems?Overview interface is a nice new addition, but its very privative and lacks the ability to make it really sign for presentation.  Adding widgets would help dramatically, or move the Header image and Bookmark functionality to Widgets for Canvas pages.How was this validated?...Who is the target audience?Internal Directors and Studio Execs

Compare fields to summary row aggregates in interfaces

What is the proposed idea/solution?When fields are placed on an interface page, allow it to display a comparison, such as 'x% greater,' to the summary for that field with defined filters (min, max, median, average, etc.). Having a small visual indicator like an up or down arrow would also be helpful for glanceability. How does it solve the user problems?When creating record review pages, it would be useful to show how a record compares to others. In particular, for project tracking, it would be helpful to see if, for example, time to completion was 75% faster than the average for other projects in the table, or spend was 60% higher. It's also helpful for ICs to see how their work compares to other similar projects.Who is the target audience?Project managers, people managers, and individual contributors

Number Element Conditional Formatting with "Blank" Interfaces

To whom it may concern,An enhancement suggestion from Kalypso: The recent capability launched for "Conditional number color formatting in Interface Design" which allows conditional formatting of Number elements (See pic), is only enabled for pre-configured interfaces. Number elements in "Blank" interfaces, either existing or new, do not have the conditional number coloring function.Expected Benefits: Ability to benefit from conditional formatting in "Blank" interface layouts. Share Option within iOS

Not sure it this has been mentioned already however it would be immensely useful as we regularly need to “share” emails into Airtable records and it would be so much easier than a copy and paste.

This is quickly becoming one of my largest “needs” as I have created work a rounds for many of my other feature requests and just (as of yet) been unable to find a reliable, single step, process for sharing content as an attachment to Airtable. This ranges from needing to Share e-mails, e-mail attachments, etc without needing to first download them into Google Drive or similar and then open Airtable and attach manually. Having to save in multiple places creates multiple steps as well as causes me to have to have the files saved in multiple places and is just messy. Especially since, fundamentally, Airtable is meant to be my organizational utility. Is this something that is even on the Roadmap currently?

Interfaces need Public Sharing Option

I'd like to request that Interfaces get the same sharing options the rest of the base gets - specifically the ability to share publicly without someone having to have an account/base access to see it. If you can do this in a base, you should be able to do it in the Interface, which is theoretically designed for sharing.This is a feature I've seen numerous people request - just adding my voice to it. It would transform our workflow, and currently, this is the only thing Smartsheet has on Airtable in my mind. I can't convince the rest of our team to transition to Airtable if we don't have this feature.

Support for Right-to-Left Languages

Currently when writing in right to left languages (Hebrew, Arabic etc.) the text is shown pretty poorly when the text includes English or punctuation marks.

Auto-populate linked field using formula

Airtable today supports the linking of one table to another via a field, but that field must be populated either by: Having the user key/select the appropriate value in the linked field Using a manual process to occasionally populate data (i.e. copy/paste) Using a 3rd party service like Zapier or Integromat to listen for record changes and populate the value Option 1 works, but can be annoyingly inefficient from a data entry perspective. Option 2 is too kludgy and isn’t practical for anything beyond a 1 time data population. Option 3 adds complexity and the need to learn/bring in another system. Ideally, there’d be a way to auto-populate the Linked Field using a formula. The linking would either find a correlated record in the linked table, or if none found, then create a new record.
