Legacy Product Ideas

I’m sure this isn’t a new idea. Since many of us end up with double digit tables in one base (since linking isn’t available across bases), has anyone ever suggest a “view” on a base that allows hiding of tables not relevant to a certain workflow? That would seem to solve one of my friction points.

Unless I’m overlooking something, it is impossible to create a page designer template. Duplicating and changing the table in page designer, without losing any of the formating would be LOVELY. Thanks.

So I can save a shortcut to a view which already has all groups collapsed. Eg; airtable.com/tbl0x1y2z/viw0x1y2z?groups=collapsed

Is it possible to link between bases and is that on the cards for future development?

Please include “countif” and “sumif” functionality on the roll-up field reference. The “if” criteria could either be written manually or even better you could have an additional dropdown where you tick the relevant data you want summed or counted. This would be incredibly useful. Thanks!

Hi, I have 3 table: COMPANY, CONTACT, PLACES The COMPANY has a field COLOR CONTACT and PLACES link a COMPANY How can I use the COMPANY COLOR (a single label field) in PLACES and CONTACT ? The lookup fields only get the value. In fact a link field is like a “powerfull” select it would be great to handle color feature every where

Pretty simple, really. Just allow a way to add a comment on graphs, so that notable points can be labeled. For example, on Google Sheets this is possible with a ‘comment’ field. This would do wonders for collaboration, when one person can add a comment to note why a graph changed or spiked, and others could be on the same page. This could also tie into calendar events or when tasks are completed to show up as well.

Love the Web Clipper. I’m clipping regularly out of one site into a Base designed for that site. Would be super useful to be able to clip right out of the Embed Block with the website in question embedded in a Dashboard block.

A way for one linked field to perform vlookups across two tables if the field exists in both tables

We use Airtable to manage our accounts and their contact information, tax ID, mailing address, etc. We use Wunderlist on the side which acts as a project manager, ensuring that we send all of the necessary communication to each account throughout the duration of our relationship. I would love to see a feature which allows a checklist to be embedded within the database. In grid view, this would have a single cell which, if clicked on, would show an interactive checklist that pertains to that specific record. This would allow us to eliminate Wunderlist and use Airtable as our CRM and project management tool.

Attempts to use Date and Time functions with a date in a Lookup field result in #ERROR! It would be great to have that working.

It would help if the text I entered as “Base description” could show up in the main page (the list of workspaces) when I hover my mouse on all the bases. (applies to all versions of Airtable except the mobile app)

Functionality: Color the tab for the table within a base based upon some condition, preferably a check of the data within a column. Example use case: Say you have a column with a checkbox that says verified. You want the table tab to be colored red if any of the rows within the table are not checked as verified. More advanced example use case: You are using linked records. You usually look at the main table Table A which has a linked record field linking to Table B. Another user is periodically adding data to Table B, but you manage Table A. As you know when you link A to B, a column is populated on Table B showing the link. You want to make sure all the rows in Table B are linked in Table A. So you set a formula to turn the tab for Table B to red if it has any unlinked rows, i.e. any record on Table B has an empty field for the column automatically generated when you create the Linked Record field on Table A.

It would be very helpful if next to a date field there was a today button that would fill the current date in the field.

One of our uses for Airtable is to host our work orders for our quality control department. We create a record with text, dates, links, and pdf attachments of our design schematics. It’s a waste of paper to print these off ahead of time because they get lost. So we want to be able to hand our team a few iPads and give them the ability to print only if it’s necessary. To do this, we would need a print button to print the file via AirPrint from the file attachment without downloading it. A print button right here next to the download button on desktop just for simplicity’s sake. (right now I have to download the file to my downloads, open in preview, then print. It works, but I desire more efficiency and I know its possible) On iOS, I can’t find a print button after you press the share button. Does Airtable just not want us using paper?

I currently ran into the issue that Airtable had a limit on the number of Columns. I currently collect a heavy amount of data that require more than 500 columns.Is there any chance Airtable will be increasing this?

We would like the ability to color code the same record differently using single select in a single calendar view by tracking multiple date fields (or the same date field used multiple times with labels). Applying a single select color in a Calendar View currently places that coloring over all date fields being tracked in the view. We would like the ability to set a single select coloring to a specific date field being displayed. Our use case is we are attempting to track the status of different staff members on a specific date, so we can use the same date field four different times (labelled by person) and apply a different single selector status to each version of the date field.

The issue with advanced permissions is that there is no one-sized fits all option and it could become problematic in creating tons of permissions issues, an issue that doesn’t plague Airtable, unlike other software. Variant/Portals are available from the Workspace Level, and you simply right click the base and “Create New Variant/Portal”. A Variant/Portal in my mind should be the current Universe Viewer, but the App container is replaced with an editable view (Example: Britannica's Digital Content Management System - Airtable Universe), and Creators can edit/hide Tabs/Views i.e. a duplicate of the base that syncs… (to me, and I think others it would still be useful even if it was necessary to lock the base from having new fields if a Variant/Portal relating to the base existed.) In my mind this is better than permissions as no user-level permissions need to be added to AT, just invite the correct users to the correct Variant/Portal relating to the correct base

I’d love the ability to personalize my Kanban views with a background image. It would be an amazing way to personalize the view.

I am putting this under the category of Product Suggestions because it is something I think Airtable could implement as a company to improve satisfaction amongst users and build trust in the product as a viable long-term solution for business problems. When I browse through nearly any product request of relevance to me (which happen to also be relevant to a significant portion of forum users, it seems), I see dozens of user responses to threads spanning years, often without any meaningful responses from the Airtable team. To highlight this, the feature request with the most views AND most responses is “Link to other base” That feature has: 36,000 views 395 replies Comments spanning from October 2015 to September 2019 A total of 6 replies from the Airtable team, dated: 1/16 3/16 5/16 6/16 7/16 3/19 I think it is worth noting that 5 of those responses occurred in 2016. I love the configurability of views and filters. However, for the bases I use most frequently, I end up with a dozen or so different views mostly differing by combinations of a smaller number of filters, and I’d have more if it didn’t become too difficult to remember, configure, and update them. It would be very useful to be able to add a bar of buttons to toggle frequently used pre-defined filters on and off. The Kanban views in JIRA have this, and I really miss having something similar in AirTable (in both Kanban and Grid views). Thanks again for the great product - and keep making it better.

I have one formula field that watches another field for a particular value like ‘Started task’ and will mark a timestamp when it sees it. I have another formula field watching for ‘Done task’. The problem is that when I change status from ‘Started task’ to ‘Done task’ in the watched field, my ‘Started task’ date disappears. I wish there was a way in a formula to do something like ‘compute only the first time you see this’, so that it sticks for all time. Sure, I could manually enter the date, but that’s not why I love Air Table :slightly_smiling_face: Thanks for listening. -Josh
