It can be really difficult to troubleshoot broken formulas in Airtable, because the error message only tells us that something went wrong — but it doesn’t tell us WHERE something went wrong. In most other programming languages, the error handling will either: Highlight the part of the formula that is broken. Or tell the user the exact line number & character number of where the formula is broken. Either one of these scenarios would be fine! 🙂 This product suggestion was inspired by this thread: Help with basic IF statement Formulas No, this is not true. For example: IF( 3 > 0, "yes", "no" ) will evaluate just fine. But IF ( 3 > 0, "yes", "no" ) will result in an error. I have never before worked with a single programming language that would get hung up on that extra space there! However, this is where things gets really strange. Because Airtable got hung up on that extra space up above, you would think that it would get hung up on an extra carriage return — but it doesn’t. For example, this function evaluates ju…

We really need a Zapier trigger for when an Airtable record is UPDATED. Currently, the only option that Airtable has given us in Zapier is a trigger called “New Record In View”. However, “New Record In View” IS NOT A SOLUTION. The problem with the “New Record In View” option is that it only triggers the very first time a record appears in a view . If the record falls off the view, and then comes back onto the view later, the trigger is never triggered again. Therefore, the “New Record in View” option is not really usable for the vast majority of use cases. What we really need is an “Updated Record” trigger in Zapier. This is one of our Top 10 Feature Requests for Airtable. Luckily, in the meantime, we’ve got OpenSide’s On2Air Actions to help us with this. It costs $50 per month (or $500 per year) to use On2Air Actions, but for businesses that can afford it & can truly benefit from it, the cost is well worth it. I’ve never used Integromat’s Airtable integrations, but it looks like they do a similar thing to On2Air Actions — where they will scan records for updates and then trigger some sort of an action based on an updated record. We absolutely love supporting these 3rd-party companies that have stepped up to the plate to deliver us wonderful solutions! However, it’s always easier & better for the platform when the 1st-party company (Airtable) natively integrates necessary functionality like this into their platform. Thanks!

Custom workspace announcements that can be pushed to all bases and/or visible at the workspace level. This would be handy in a distributed team / enterprise environment where each team operates in their own base within a single workspace. Implementation ideas: either in a form of a custom notification event, a popup banner inside the base or workspace, or an Airtable made announcements app (we have third party apps disabled in our environment for security reasons).

Giving dedicated real estate to notifications would send a clear signal that the platform is intended for collaboration. Each individual record has an ‘Activity’ sidebar which allows for viewing not only record history but also comments. Notifications are capturing the same thing, but are hidden in a drop-down. This makes them difficult to see do to the limited amount of items displayed and the badge count disappearing once the drop-down is clicked rather than when the notification is read. What I request is embedding a base-wide (or potentially table limited) activity view similar to that on each record summary. This would allow for glancing at table and base changes more easily and could also be a place for table/base related comments that don’t apply to specific records.

EDITED - What I really meant is the comments section on an individual record. I have found that the notes section works really well to keep tabs on what is going on with a task because it date stamps them, and I can quickly scroll back through if I get confused or need reminding on something, and sometimes I want to clue in other people about something, so I @ them, but then it automatically marks them as “watching” that record. And I don’t want them to get continuous notifications every time I make a note if it doesn’t relate to them. I could ask them to “unwatch” the record, but that just adds in another annoying step that I wish I could take care of my end as the main owner of the bases for my projects/team, and then I might want to direct another comment at them, in which case they would be marked as “watching” the record again. If they are getting continuous notifications that don’t relate to them, it will make it into a “boy who cried wolf” type of situation. They will be less likely to pass attention to them, and might miss a note that really is important for them to read and follow up on.

We have multiple editors who help build bases for clients, and it would be extremely useful to have the option to receive notifications (via email, Slack, etc.) whenever someone makes a structural change to a base, e.g. adds/renames/deletes a tab, adds/renames/deletes a field, modifies a single-select field value list, creates or changes a shared view, etc. It would also be very useful in the common scenario where we build a base for a client and they have one user who is an editor; very often, they end up making changes (sometimes intentionally and sometimes not) that impact the structure of the base that we don’t know about. Not being able to keep track of editor-level changes makes keeping the bases stable and well-documented extremely difficult!

What is the proposed idea/solution? I propose adding a reminder functionality into commenting that integrates with Airtable's Notifications function. Exact implementation could vary, but the ability to tag a user (or yourself) and select a length of time or an exact date when you'll receive an Airtable notification directing you back to the record. How does is solve the user problems? While date/time fields, calculations, and email automations can be utilized to create reminders for users in a record's data, that then becomes an integral part of a records data. Often I see a temporary change need to be enacted and returned to a month or two later, and being able to simply comment a reminder to re-visit the record would be invaluable. Instead of setting multiple fields and automations, integrating with the comments section provides a side space to set a "Hey! Come back to this!" reminder which fits the use cases of comments. Who is the target audience? All users, but particularly those managing ongoing data sets rather than discrete projects. In my particular case, we re-check our data records every 6 months, but occasionally there are scheduled changes (a location we document is closed until X date) which need to be expressed and then re-evaluated off schedule.

In order to enforce standardised user management and permission policies on admin panel or through Enterprise API it would be great to be able to disable invite/share notifications. E.g. when changing from workspace permissions to equal base permissions users are notified. This causes users to get huge amount of email notifications and some might flag those as spam.

What is the proposed idea/solution? True emailing and calling functionality. The ability to send and receive emails and make and receive calls within airtable and have them log to the record or even multiple records. Preferably the user would be able to choose from popular third party email and phone providers that would integrate in. How does is solve the user problems? To my mind, with this feature, airtable now becomes a real alternative to CRM systems, helpdesk/ticketing systems, etc. How was this validated? ... Who is the target audience? Really anyone using airtable. The most popular CRMs and other systems are starting to feel old and tired. People WANT to use airtable for more and more things, but until there are true communication features built in, it's hard to do so.

When assigning a collaborator to a User field, it would be nice if we could direct users to a specific URL via the notification they receive. Currently clicking the email link or the notification sends users to the expanded record in the view where the collaborator assignment happened, but this is less useful in various cases. For example, in a table I'm creating, I have the access to assign a collaborator to the "Assignee" field from multiple grid views and interface pages, but I'd like for anyone that receives the notification to be directed to a different interface page where that can see their assigned records.
