I just wanted to say awesome work to the AirTable team on the development environment inside scripting blocks. I like coding in it even more than using WebStorm/intelliJ, which I’ve always considered state of the art! The one feature I think that would make it even more helpful would be to have a shortcut to copy and paste the previous line or highlighted section (cmd + d in WebStorm). Hoping for an added feature to control the colors of a chart block. Please correct me if I missed a feature in anything I say below ! So far, the only way I found to control the colors of a chart block is to group based on a single-select field. Unfortunately, the colors of single-select options are : limited by the AirTable UI available colors limited to manual changes (I can’t find a way to change them through formulas or API calls) My use case : as I explained here, I have various correlated charts plotting data from a “Sessions” table, and I group them by customer (link to the “Customers” table). I need consistent colors to analyze these at a glance. Possible implementations that would work for me : Basic feature enabling workarounds : Allow control of Single-select option colors through formulas, through the API, or any other way… Maybe too narrow : Blocks > Chart > ‘Group by’ field > Add a ‘Custom color’ choice which could be based on table relations. In my case, expecting ‘Group by’>“Customer” link field and ‘Custom Color’>“CustomerColor” chosen in the customers table. [Eventually, implementing a ‘Color’ field type at the same time] (New Field: Color 🌈) would be the icing on the cake ! 🙂 My best solution at the moment : I use a Node.js bot (built for various third-party syncs) to sync the “Customer” link value of a “Sessions” record into a Single-select field of the same record which holds the manually input color of that customer. We are using Airtable in our real estate company as our primare base for storing all these complex data regarding owners, properties, law firms etc etc. When we want to expand a record either directly or clicking on a linked table record, the expanded view takes so long to scroll mainly because of the big spacing. (see attached image). Of course i understand that you have put much more thought and time to take this desicion, But i would like to suggest either reduce the vertical space size or give the option to the user, like gmail has the cosy, comfortable or compact spacing. When opening an attached document in Airtable it blocks the view of the record. It would be handy when a document opened in a new window, to be able to read an opened document and the connected record at the same time (for example to make notes/description from the document into the record). ... Reading data and column in a Table can be challenging especially when you need to be focused. Although airtable has a very pleasant interface, the color of the texts is a medium gray which makes difficult to read. I think it would be really helpful to have the ability to adjust the contrast of the texts. The font itself is very light weight which makes info even more hard to read. Considering also the fact that airtable is used by people older than 45 yo, their vision is not that sharp. This issue (for me) Is mostly design issue, which creates practical problems. We have the flexibility and the power to make complex databases with linked info from each table, and we are spending more time trying to read what it says. Even one second more is important in the long term. Of course this is also depending from the quality of the monitor you are using. So unless you use Mac or eizo monitor, the appearance of the) everything looks flat . I have check it various monitors. And except mobile (no iPhone) all the other are not easy to read. Is the current UI favors design against the data itself? Could be the font weight, could be the color, could be both. Hi guys, Airtable really a great product, my congratulations. The perceived weakest point of Airtable is blocks connection. I don’t know if it’s a strategy decision or just a technical matter you would solve later. In the meanwhile I though a simple shortcut. In this case the problem is mainly customer perception, since you could put all the tables in a base. Therefore, if you could just add a tag field associated to each table, so you could group by the tables and see the table in multiple “sub-bases”. Just an example, you are designing your startup organization tool on airtable. You would have a “sub-base” for accounting, for hr, operations, communication and so on, you could use a same table (as contancts) for many sub-bases, or still make a complete summary report. The schema block is great, I always try to keep my field names consistent and contextual across tables for an easier linking experience - but I can’t help but feel amiss when I’m using the schema block and can’t edit field configurations from this birds eye view. I would love to be able to: Change field names and/or Configure a field What do you think? Maybe this is a good remix idea for the block contest? I wonder if the schema block could be used as a template and modified for this use case? EDIT: As I was thinking about this, I started day dreaming of a whole interface for Airtable built around this concept. Adding the ability to create, delete, modify tables from this view would be superb, but at the same, I wonder if it would be too much work / overhauling to implement. On the other hand, it hadn’t occurred to me that I can simply have the base schema open on one monitor, and the table on another, so I think that solves that! Any thoughts? It would be really helpful to have access to the reference tables that are used to store data in single select fields, so that you could use the same reference data for single select cells in other tables within the same base rather than having to replicate entries manually ... View more
