Well, after all this time, its finally here: my custom app Master Calendar. When you want to build custom tools or websites on your Airtable data - then you’ll be using the Airtable API and almost certainly some JavaScript (in this case Node.js) to work with your data. Soon you will probably start asking questions like: How do I paginate through the Airtable REST API? How do I manage the 5 calls / second rate limit in Airtable’s API? How can I find specific records using filterBy? How do I use the API to return linked data from several tables? TL;DR - the answers were just as tedious to build as we thought. So we built a tool and wrote a tutorial on how to skip the API and use Airtable as a database. You’ll find many iterations of answers to these same questions here in the Airtable community. Yes, all of this is possible

Softr’s (a no-code platform for building web apps powered by Airtable) latest release has significantly improved the List & List Details blocks. I made this script which allows you to compare two lists based off a field value, then modify a checkbox when matches are found. My use case example: I create a custom list of contacts to email about a product by selecting a checkbox next to who I want to send to. I save this list of contacts as a view in Airtable by filtering where contacts have a ticked checkbox. I make another list of contacts to email about yet another product, however, I want to make sure that I’m not sending this to the previous contacts and their companies I sent to previously. In this case the script works as such: Table is my database Reference view is my first contact list view View to Modify is the second list I want to compare to the first Match field is the ‘Company’ field (string in airtable) - this could be anything Field to modify is the checkbox which is ticked for my second view

Airtable is an amazing tool for quickly prototyping ideas. After working helping many teams build prototypes or production applications that use Airtable as a database, we compiled the six best practices that we see make these projects not only faster to build, but easier to maintain and scale. For instance: Setup a Dev Environment: Things can break as you build new features or adjust your base schema. So duplicate your base to create a “Dev” environment in case you need to revert back. This allows you to build with confidence. Use a naming convention to delineate lookups and calculated fields: Lookups and calculated fields can make it hard to maintain a clean data model and understand how your data is changing. Is there an easy way to show all “your” records across a base? No, not really. Which is why I’m developing a custom app do help do just that. Problem Say you have a table of [Projects], which has collaborator fields for {Project Lead} and {Project Team}, and another table for [Tasks] with a collaborator field for {Assignee}. If you wanted to look at all records which have “Kamille” in those field values, you could easily make a a filtered view in each table to do so. However, you’d need to repeat this for each collaborator in your base, and there isn’t an easy way to look at both filtered lists of projects and tasks in one place. Solution

Deleting empty records Sometimes a base ends up with empty records - records with no values in any fields. Here is a utility to delete them from a table.
