Automations

Many times we wish to have a single select or multi select field automatically choose an output based on other fields. Automations are useful for this, but are limited and become convoluted as a separate module, especially when you have many of these use cases in one table.It would be very useful to have a single select or multi select field with an inbuilt formula box, where the select output could be determined by the formula. You could then introduce another option to lock formula mapping (ie no ability to edit), or freeze mapping, where an Auto value output would generate unless the field was manually overwritten.The workaround at present is to create three Fields, 1 select field for manual input, 1 formula field for automated input and one last official formula field to take the most relevant of the two previous outputs. This generates clunky database design, similar to when there was no today() function.

I appreciate your help!I have one main table of English learners who register for classes - name, contact info, etc. Let's call is the Main Student table.There are two other tables that get data related to each student. (One table gets data from Stripe if the student is able to pay anything. Another table shows teacher comments about the student from the prior year.)In the past, we set up links between the tables. Then, for each student, we manually linked the individual records and had "lookup" fields for the fee & comments in the main Student table. But we had 750 learners register with us last year!How can we automate this? I'm thinking that an automation would need to:1. Find matches between the Main Student table and the other tables (based on one or more of name / email / phone)2. Hello everyone,I currently have two tables, one for Plants (industrial power/chemical plants) and one for Events (scheduled maintenance outages). Each Plant has a unique Plant ID that is also listed on each Event with multiple Events for each Plant. Is there a way to automatically link each Event to its respective Plant based on matching the Plant ID in each record? In other words, is there an automation that exists or can be created that looks at the Plant ID on the record in the Plant table and the Event table, recognizes that field as identical on both, then links the two records? Thank you!KCVellichor

I chose the "When a record is updated" option in the Automation trigger with multiple field selections, and the Next step is Scriptwriting, In the script, I need to track which field has been updated recently (i.e. which updated field triggers this automation).Eg: Table AField 1 | Field 2 | Field 3 | Field 4These four fields are selected in the "When a record is updated" option of the Automation trigger.If Field 1 has been updated recently, we need to track that Field 1 has been updated recently.If Field 2 is updated recently, we need to track that Field 2 is updated recently.Based on the Field update I have to write logic.

Hi,I have a field with created dates. I would like to be able to create a chart that shows this data, grouping by the month of the created date. However I want the year to be irrelevant. For example, March 2024 and March 2022 to be shown in the same group within the chart.I have created a new field with a formula to show the month only which works perfectly. But then when I create a chart on the interface, they are in alphabetical order and not date order which is not want we want.Can't think of a way to make the chart display the months in date order, or another way for this all to work. Any help is appreciated!

Has anyone noticed changes in how automations are functioning? I used to be able to update linked record fields with record IDs from previous steps, but now they all come out as comma-separated strings. See attached pics:  

Hello community,I'm trying to make use of an automated email that inserts a file name and a google drive url every time a document with a particular naming convention is added to my google drive.  I generate the airtable record using a make.com integration, and then the email fires in the native airtable "Gmail:send email" function.  (I suppose I could try to take this automation to make.com instead, but I'm hoping my use case is simple enough that I can just keep it in airtable for now).The problem I am coming across is that my file names have underscores in them, and my google drive URLs sometimes have characters that seem to cut off the complete URL.What happens when the file name has _filename_ in it, is that airtable removes the underscores and turns filename into italics.  I've tried using the "escape markdown" tag (see here: https://support.airtable.com/docs/using-markdown-in-airtable), but it's not working for the "List of 'File Name'" result that gets

Hi, Table A, B, and C. Table B fields are linked with Table A and Table C. I'm trying to run automation. Whenever a new record is added, I will filter the records from Table A and Table C based on the condition. Then I need to create a record in Table B by linking the data from Table A and Table C. Now I can filter the records from Table A and Table C using the Find Records action. but not able to run a nested repeating loop. I can do only one repeating loop.

Hi there,I have 2 tables in the same base, one for adding data and one for report.I want to create a new record in the "report" table every time I add a new row to my "data" table with an automation.BUT I don't want to have a duplicate records. I want to check if the text in the "Name" column in my "data" table matches "Name" column in the "report" table.(if they match - do nothing)I try to do it with "Find records" but I don't quite familiar with it.What is the best way to do it?Thank you.

I have two tables in airtable from the same project in JIRA.1 - Named: "Aurora EPICS [NL]".I made an export (.CSV) from JIRA and uploaded it in Airtable.All registers (139) and its columns (288) was uploaded: I want to update these registers from now on, adding new registers when they created in JIRA and update existent registers when they modified in JIRA. Is it possible?  How?2 - Named "Aurora EPICs - [JQL]".I used the extension "Jira Cloud" (by Airtable) and obtained the same 139 registers but with less columns, only 11.Four doubts:A - Can automatize the connection between AirTable and JIRA in the table #1.B - Can I bring more columns to the "Aurora EPICs - [JQL]" table?C - I trying to use Automations in both case. We have a suggestion box that is sourced from a Slack workflow form. The form answers move directly from Slack into an Airtable Base to be managed. Our Slack users without Airtable accounts are unable to launch the workflow and cannot contribute. Is there any way to get the submission form to launch for Slack-only users? Or a workaround to get their responses into Airtable by first routing elsewhere?Considering Airtable allows for form submissions on its own platform for non-users, I had assumed this one way traffic into our base wouldn't be an issue and now we're in a pickle. Hello!I have created a table view based off my main table to keep track of my drivers working hours. Legislation requires me to input something for each date, so on days they are off I have to write "Off". I have it set up that they fill out a form, which fills the main table. How can I set an automation to create fields in between the dates, each time a driver fills out a new form?Any help is appreciated because I've tried so many ways and it keeps giving me errors

Hello,I want to hand executive leadership a simple tool to use as they are not familiar with Airtable like our Project Managers are. The workflow I am hoping for is a Gantt chart, that would auto filter when they select a record to look at. If I have a list of project records, each project has different teams assigned to it, often multiple teams. If someone clicks "Project A", I would want the Gantt to auto filter to only include projects that have the same teams as "Project A". Then a simple way to reset the filter to move on to "Project B", then it filters to only show projects with the same teams as "project b". The idea is to see when projects are running from start to finish, and to be able to compare a new project that uses the same teams so we can time slot the start/end of the new project better, based on team availability. Thanks!

How do I get this to run automatically when a new record is created or a new record enters a specific view? I have tried using the script from the extension in a script automation triggered by an event (new record, record enters a view etc.) and it doesn’t like the script from the extension

How can i auto-fill a linked field?i have 2 linked tables in Airtable: CONTENT and CONTENT TYPESIn the table CONTENT i have two linked fields CONTENT TYPE and WORKFLOW In CONTENT TYPES i have the two "originals" of CONTENT TYPE and WORKFLOW If i select in the CONTENT table the linked value CONTENT TYPE and this CONTENT TYPE has a DEFAULT WORKFLOW (i.e. cell is not empty) then the WORKFLOW field in CONTENT table should auto-populate with the DEFAULT WORKFLOW value.Basically only if there is a default workflow (cell not empty) of the Workflow column in the content type table, then this value should be auto-filled on a linked field in the CONTENT table. Hope this makes sense? I know this can be done with an automation inside airtable. but how?

I am creating an automation that sends a reminder email if a task is not complete within a certain date. That being said, some users have multiple tasks to complete and receive an individual email for each record they’re attached to. Is there a way I can have a reminder email sent with multiple records condensed into one message so the owner does not receive multiple emails?

I'm having a problem getting my airtable to properly work with a dynamic page created on our website. There is an embedded form within the dynamic page, and the HTML for this is linked to a record within the aritable "Form HTML".I have been able to get this to work with the simple form html. What I am now trying to do is add on extra criteria within the HTML so that a section of the form is pre populated when loading certain pages. As soon as I add the extra code in it results in problems. I either get that the page cannot be found, or it will say this for about 10 minutes and then magically load, but it will only load on a desktop and not a mobile. Hi - I am trying to do a daily balance and bills owed table and am wanting to match expected income so that the dates match. Ideally it would also have a daily exchange rate. I am just not sure how to match and roll-up based on varrying criteria without needing a new column for each date. How do I do this? Do I need a third table?

My goal is to create a single automation, that checks multiple separate fields and if they contain values, process separate actions.For example, if a new record is created and there are values in the field weight, then update the weight field of the linked record. If a new record is created and there are values in the location field, then update the location field of the linked record.Now the statements follow an IF -> ELIF (Otherwise if) logic, therefore if a new record is created and both fields (Weight and location) are not empty, only the first condition is fulfilled and the automation stops. I have built an automation and it works very well. When I open a new row in the "Projects" table, it automatically adds the necessary tasks in the "Tasks" table. It also fills in the default values. Great. Unfortunately, I cannot insert a default value from the "Projects" table as a lookup. I can select it, but nothing happens. Does anyone have a tip?When I do the preview, the value appears, but only the one already created. In my case "test".Or is this only possible via the "Create child linked records" script?
