Base Design

I usually set my primary field as a formula, a concatenation of the Record_ID() and another field of the table, let’s say Name. So if I have a table “Contact” with fields Name, Email, Status. I would use a concat of Name and record id as the primary field. This ensures that it’s unique. It also helps when I have a linked field to Contact from another table, as I am able to search based on Name. How do you design so that Primary Field can be unique as well as easily searchable in the Linked Field popup? Would love to hear from others.

Hi there! New AirTable user here and I am using this platform for my dissertation research. I created a beautiful form on the wrong base and I want to copy it to a new/correct one. The original form took me quite a while to get perfect, so I don’t want to re-do it. So, my question is, how can I copy a form from one base to another base? Additionally, how can I determine which grid is populated by the responses from the form? Thank you!

Hi all, I need some tips cause I would like to create a survey form but with “unique values”. Let me explain: Assuming we have a team, and we want to make a voting (es. a number from 1 till 5…) . I know that I can manage it by many types of fielad (rating, single select menu etc…). But for me is important that the value of vote is “unique” (like a bullet :laughing: :gun: ) so,for example if Tom uses the number 5 into a field he can’t use it anymore in the same record ( in this example Tom remains with 1, 2, 3, and 4 to use and so on…). Of course others people can use each one the 5 value but always one time only like Tom doing… Do you think it could be possible to manage this with a right use of Airtable? Thanks

I need to set a Due Date based off the meeting date which would all live in the same row. For example, if the event date is 7/29/21 and the task is due 10 days before the even I would need the due date for this task to auto-populate 7/19/21. I have tried using the DATE ADD function but this only allows the same number of days for the whole row. I would need a different formula used in each row since every task has different timelines.

Hello, i am trying to create a db, which contains recurring and unique events, similar to recurring events in facebook. could you, please share ideas how to implement such case? maybe there are some standard recommendations how to this event can recurre more then one time per week if event is recurring i wish to have opportunity to cancel one or more specific event also it some cases all events can be cancelled

I currently have a google sheet with teachers names as columns and time slots as rows and the students name is the cell. Is there an easy way to replicate this printable view in Airtable? I need to be able to print that out daily for staff - but really the data is Airtable based. Love some genius insight! TY

UI bug with rich text within a field.

I have a table for Users, the primary field is UID, I have email, name, created time. I have a table for Orders. It has Order IDs, email, final price, order place date. I have a table for Cancellations. It has cancellation ID, email, cancellation date. I have a table for User updates. This ha User ID, email, new email (if updated), new name (if updated). All tables are populated automatically from Zapier upon events in another system. I would like to show the SUM of all order placed for the specific User ID under Users, however I can’t seem to link this via UIDs? Does this mean I have to change the primary column in both places to Emails? I need a custom field under Cancellations, that looks up the last date an Order was placed and adds a month to it. However, Cancellations does not have user IDs… will I also have to use emails here? Last but not least,

Hi all. I’m a PhD student in history using Airtable to manage archival research for my dissertation. My research involves tracking individuals and family groupings through many different archives. At the moment, I have a table for “people” and I will eventually have multiple tabs for the different archives I do research in. The “people” table is my primary table, and then I link those people to specific archival records in the archives tables. The first goal is to be able to see at a glance and analyze all of the different archival records across multiple tabs that relate to that individual. The issue of course is that many archival records have more than one person represented, and every person has multiple archival records. So, I need to represent “many-to-many” relationships. For example, I have a collection of letters in which I want to show who the letter is from and who it is to. I’m wondering if I’ve designed this right, if I need any kind of junction table, and

Hi, i am trying to use airtable to store the results of multiple surveys, all that have slightly different questions. I also want to be able to generate reports and summaries of the responses to these surveys. The schema I came up with so far (the core of it) is: Client = (id, contact_email, name) Survey = (id, client, name, start_date, end_date) Category = (id, name, parent : Category | null) Question = (text, categories: Category) Response = (survey : Survey, email, question : Question, response) response could be agree/disagree/strongly agree/strongly disagree/neutral. I have 5 tables: A. invoices (many invoices from each vendor). B to E. Advance payments, packaging, and other amounts they should deduct from the total in A. I want to consolidate the total to pay, per vendor, after discounts (A-(B+C+D+E)), and have a detailed report for each vendor (invoices - deductions). This last action is my challenge, the report for each vendor should include invoice & debit numbers, and send it for each vendor. I could use Integromat to automate some processes, but I can’t get the detailed report per vendor yet. Any ideas? Thank you all in advance. JRM

Is it possible to have a linked record be filtered by using IS logic? When using the filtering tool and selecting the linked field, I’m only given the four text options and no IS option (see below). I’d like to have it be like this (see below).

Hello! I’m looking to link my bases for an art history research project, and one of the ones that would be helpful is to make the life dates of the artists actual dates, instead of having them as a “Single Line of Text” category like I do now. The problem is I can’t figure out if it’s possible to include text like “ca.” (or “around”) to date fields. Do you have any suggestions? I suppose if someone lived in “the early 19th century,” I could put 1800–1850 as specific dates. The other issue is I just want years, not days and months. If I can figure out how to do all of this, I could make an interactive timeline showing the overlaps of artists’ lifetimes! That would be fantastic.

Hey there, Airtable Community! I’m trying to do something and can’t seem to figure it out. Here’s what I’m trying to do. I’ve got one table where I’m tracking Medium stories, including the author, tags added to the story, date, etc. Basic version of what I’m going for: Medium has Top Writer status that can be achieved for specific tags. I’d like to track who those top writers are at the end of every month, and in a rollup field (I think this is what I would use) I want to ONLY show the stories from the month/tag in which they were a top writer. So I’d want to see that for the productivity tag, Author One got Top Writer status in June, then easily see all the stories written by them in that month (from within that record in the Top Writer table). I am trying to set up a base to track animals that are brought to a disaster relief center for care. It was fairly easy to create all of the fields that we need to record such as animal ID or breed. What I am having trouble figuring out his how can I set up a field where we enter daily updates about each patient? Is that simply a field with multiple lines available? Is there a way to automatically insert a date for each entry and also include descriptions of the update?

We are suddenly receiving a message that our unpublished application form is “potentially risky.” Now we cannot make the form public until this is resolved. Any idea what is happening or how to solve it? Thank you

Hi, I have a conditional rollup where I am doing an Arrayunique of events that occurred in a specific Academic Year. If the array is empty (meaning, the event was not scheduled in said year), then I want the rollup field to say “Not Scheduled”. Is that possible? I currently am doing this by using the Rollup as a helper column, but would love it if I can do this all in one.

So I see you can create a template for a printable paper document from your Airtable database. Have they created a webpage version of this yet? Basically, I want to break out of the iframe boundary that makes my webpage look cramped. Basically, in a nutshell, I want to be able to beautify the table (with css) and views but still keep the search functionality.

So I have a database with several tables: One contains all books in my library Another one contains all journals Another one contains reports, etc. The last one contains records of compartments in different shelves on different racks. All other tables link to this one to specify where exactly this or that book, journal, etc. is found. All tables contain at least one identical field: Title. What I need is to create a table that will automatically enumerate unique titles from all tables and show the corresponding locations.

Hi all, Thanks in advance for helping! I have one view; my base view; with all the ideas we want to pick up as a team; it shows the idea, description, who’s responsible etc… But these ideas have to be prioritized by each teammember and its average will decide its prioritization. To do this, I created view for each teammember: I want to automatically ‘pull’’ the idea records from the first view into each teammembers’ view. I keep failing with the link records and lookups. With link reocrds, there’s nothing to link it too. In excel I would just simply use: Sheet_name ! First_cell : Last_cell but how can I achieve this in Airtable? I’m new to all this.
