Base Design

Hello,My organization has developed a great app in Airtable for our really unique use case (context at the bottom). The functionality of the app is really, really great. The user interface design and usability is poor and is now causing problems, and I'd like help improving the user interface.The biggest problem is that we have so many different datapoints that we need to access, that our "Grid View" tables are too wide, so we can't see all the information at one time that we need to see. How can I transform my Airtable user interface into something that's really helpful and usable? I would love to be able to activate the current Airtable time tracker per project (start, pause and stop) in an interface and get reports per project, sum of all projects, per week, per month per year. And be able to manually override (because it occasionally happens that I am working on a project and forgot to set my toggle timer...).I have been puzzling for over a month now with last time modified, duration, datetimediff and with the time tracker from Airtable, but I do not get the results that I want (which is basically the exact functions of Toggle). New Airtable user here, so this is a pretty basic question (and so hopefully a straightforward answer!), though I can’t find existing guidance in the forum. Specifically, I’m having no luck creating a “Link to another record” column that automatically populates itself with those linked records. The Project tracker template provides an example of exactly what I mean: the Task column is linked to the Tasks table and automatically fills with any new records that are added to the latter. When I attempt to create a new “Link to another record” column with this functionality, however, it’s blank and stays blank (doesn’t pull in existing or newly created records from the Tasks table). I am using airtable to manage information related to a landscape design and installation business.   For most products, we purchase them as we need them and don't hold inventory.  However, for plants, we sometimes order in bulk (lots of 32 or 50), hold them in inventory and then use them as projects come up.  Plants that I order in bulk come in size a or b.I would like to be able to visualize projected inventory at points in the future (2w, 1m, 2m) for each plant in the different sizes we can order it in.  (i.e. today I have 0 of x, but in 2w after a purchase of 30 units and sale of 20 units I will have 10)Currently, I am using the following tables and fields to track plant inventory in and out.  The plants table is linked to sales and purchase by the SizeAIn and  SizeAOut rollups.  It can then calculate inventory by SizeAIn - SizeAOut.  I can use filters so that it excludes proposed sales/purchases or filter by date.

Hi, community! I need some help with this. I'm setting up a bank reconciliation in Airtable and need a column to record all the transactions from my bank account. Additionally, I'd like another column that shows the running balance for each transaction, reflecting the total income and expenses up to that point. I'm not looking for a single overall balance, but rather a balance that updates with each individual transaction.

I created a very mobile-friendly app using AirTable, had participants download the AirTable mobile app, and attempted to showcase the mobile interface with about 80 participants in a room. Participants complained of seeing completely blank screens or only partial amounts of data showing up.Is the Teams Edition insufficient for this use case, and do I need the business or enterprise version to handle this type of traffic? *P.S. The wifi was not the issue. 

I am testing a simple base approach which has three tables: Clients, Contacts and Jobs.The clients table has linked records to contacts to denote all the contacts that we work with at that client. And linked records to jobs to denote all the jobs we are working on with that client. A client can have multiple linked contacts and multiple jobs, but contacts and jobs can only be linked to one client.When I'm creating a new job record, I'd like to select the specific contact at the client who represents the lead contact for that particular project.I realise this can be achieved by a simple linked record field to the contacts table. However, when selecting from the contacts table, this shows all contacts regardless of which client they are at. Hello,I have a base that has many tables that are synced via emailed CSVs. One table was initially set up with multiple emailed files where they were ingested as updates to the table, which resulted in the ~100,000 records needed. for initial setup.Since then, updates are sent through each night with updates (which are much smaller record counts). Some of the records that are updated causes them to fall "out of scope", meaning they aren't needed in the table anymore. I'm aware of the ability to delete records, one by one, that are not in the source data (current emailed CSV), however since the emailed CSVs are a much smaller subset, and at this point there are MANY "out of scope" records, it would result in searching through a list of over 100,000 records, for each record that needs to be deleted.Now, to my question - is there any way to mass delete records, given the circumstances described above? Hello,We've got a destination base (called overview) with dozens of sync source bases and recently enabled two-way sync, mainly so we could assign projects from the overview base. When a user field is updated on the overview and the field is set to notify users when they are added, it seems that the email they receive has a link to the overview record and not the sync source record. Is this a setting that can be adjusted, or do I need to think about a workaround with automations? Most of our team will work in the source bases and not the overview, and there are fields that aren't synced which they use.I've also found that if I turn off the notification setting on the overview (but not the source base) the assigned user doesn't receive any email at all.Thanks

Hi all - I work on a team that manages contracts and all of our data lives in Airtable. We use Favro, however, to track cross-team work to resolve post-contract enrollment issues. I then create a new row in a "Post-Enrolled Issues" table of our base that is linked to the primary contract table so that we can maintain visibility on each contract's issues while also reporting on summaries in an interface view.Double data entry, however, is no bueno. I have played around with and considered transitioning from Favro to a kanban view in Airtable, but without going into detail, have decided not to pursue this further.I'm therefore wondering if anyone here has experience integrating Airtable and Favro? I did ask a colleague check it out and they said, "The biggest problem I’m having with Zapier is that it will only pull one field from Airtable and make a new card with that field as the card name, so it’s not any more efficient than doing it manually. Hi, I'm very new to Airtable, but I couldn't find a solution for my issue. Maybe there is one that would make my life so much sweeter :)) Let's say we have a product and this product has 2 options: Machine 1 or 2 which machine to choose depends on another single select field in another record, with options 1 or 2. now want to use an automation if 1 is 1 create new record with 1. but somehow string arrays can't be accessed in automations. Hello I was wondering if there is a way to automatically populate dropdown options from data in either the same or a different table. For Example, if I have a sheet that has 5 rows (apple, banana, orange, grapes, and lemons) in one column. Then if I want to automatically add (apple, banana, orange, grapes, and lemons) into the dropdown options in another table? Is this possible? Basically, I will be adding other options in the future and I want them to automatically add to the dropdown options if they are in another table in the same base. This is just an example, but any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've given my office manager shared access to a base as an editor. We both work from this same base throughout the day. I like to sort some of the tables in the base a certain way depending on what I'm working on, but she doesn't need them sorted that way and I don't want the table to suddenly look different on her end if she needs the table to be sorted the way it normally is. If I sort a table, will she see it sorted that way on her end too?

I am working on a seating chart for an event that has 150 tables of 10 and want to create a base that will help me assign people to tables, track how many open seats I have at a table etc. Any suggestions?

Hello. I'm brand new to airtable. Less than 2 days. I'm struggling a lot. I have a table with basic member info in it (member id, first name, last name, email, etc).  Now, I want to create a form, let's call it "sign up for party". I want the results of this form to populate another table, but be linked to the data in the main members table.When I create a linked field in the form, it shows EVERYONE in the table!! That's a huge security issue!! I want people to enter their member id into the form and have that id validated that it exists on form submit. When they submit, the record should be created in the new 'signups' table, linked to the main table.how do I accomplish this? This seems fairly simple/common, yet I've spent 8hrs trying to figure it out.

I recently saw that we can create Kanban views using LinkedIn fields and not just single-select options within that table. Question though—how do I change the order of these columns? They seems to be sorted automatically although it's unclear how it's being sorted. For what it's worth, I can't manually change the column order (which is what you could do for the single select fields)...

New user here, though I'm getting some great experience so far, especially with help from this community!I come from an ERP background using Peoplesoft so I have a good understanding of traditional relational databases.  One thing that is good about PS is that a field, such as "business_unit" is uniform across all the records on the definition side (though the tables could be built diffrently).A few "nice to have" suggestions I'd put forth regarding the field definitions include:When adding a field to a record, and if that field name matches another table in your base, you should be given the option to replicate the attributes (field type, defaults, etc) from the other table. If more than one table, let me select which one I want to duplicate.On field definition, it would be useful to define a form label and on the form allow a person select an option for field name, field label, or custom. hello, i’m new to this and i’m wondering what the best way to approach putting lists of songs in here! basically i have too many playlists on spotify and i don’t listen to all of them anyway, because it is more like categorising them. on spotify i have different folders and multiple playlists within them, e.g instruments: piano, guitar etc. i’d like to transfer that over to here and have the fields be the song names of those categories. what’s the best way i can make this without it getting too overwhelming? just for reference i have at least 100 playlists that i’d want to transfer, over like 15 folders. thanks!

I want to track time spent (in days) in the current stage and time spent in each subsequent stage as the transaction progresses through the deal lifecycle.  I want to be able to report on this data.Some reports I would like to run include:how many deals are in stage A, in Augusthow many deals are in stage B in July vs August vs Septemberhow much time is spent in each stage?
