On a recent task I reached my limit for the annoying and time-consuming implementation of a PDF document generation process for Airtable. I just had to find a way to eliminate lots of steps. Lacking the use of integrated tool sets the likes of which @kuovonne and On to Air has created, most of mine have embraced a process like this. As you can see in the list, the workflow involves a lot of steps that are dependent on services all working perfectly as expected. Not to mention that there is a significant amount of processing time involved with all of these steps combined. Airtable → Automation → Script → Webhook → Google Apps Script → Airtable API → Google Document (template) → Google Drive → Google Apps Script → Airtable API → Airtable I really want this: Airtable → Script Action → Airtable This seems impossible, but it’s not. I have perfected this approach and it requires no external document storage service to host the final PDF document from for upload into Airtable’s attachment

Ever needed to get the initials of a name that had more than first and last name plus some weird dashes and what not?Try this formula, which can also be used to get the firstname and lastname with a workaround of find() and search() which only returns the position of the first space in the stringLEFT({Name},1) & LEFT(REGEX_EXTRACT(Name,"\\s(\\S+)$"),1) I hope this helps!

Ok, so first up i love airtable and think it is possible the greatest app ever made, i respect airtable and greatly appreciate the free version that they have given to us, it is AWESOME. I am not trying to abuse this generosity and i am not personally using this “Hack” as for reasons that will become obvious, the “Catch” makes it unusable for commercial use / the wider public. But works for personal uses as long as you are logged into the airtable account that has the videos uploaded. Same works for images and files i imagine. There has been quite a lot of interest here about sending PDF documents from you base automatically. Integromat recently introduced a PDF ‘app’ which converts HTML into a PDF and I thought I would see what could be achieved in a real world type scenario. Here're a few 'Run a Script' Action automations for integrating with MailChimp (create contact, tag contact, archive contact). In all examples, be sure to add your own values for mailchimpAPIKey and audianceId constants and add your own input variables e.g. email, firstName, lastName, organisation, tag etc.Note: these automations send the actual email address across to MailChimp instead of using an MD5 hash of it, as is recommended by MailChimp. So, forms just got the option “Collect respondent email addresses automatically (sign-in required)”. When this option is checked and people open the form URL, they will be prompted to sign in with Airtable or make an account. After that, they can fill in the form and the email address they used to sign in or to create a new account with, will be stored in a auto created “created by” field in your table. This opens up the possibility to let people change their data, using their email address as a unique identifier. When a record, let’s say a client record, contains an email address, you can crosscheck this with the auto filled in email address in the “created by” field mentioned above, by prefilling and hiding it in an email field in the form. Via automations you can access the underlying email address from the “created by” field and check it against the one in the existing record. Posting this here for anyone else who might find it helpful. While there are some great extensions for geocoding, I needed to simply convert an address into latitude and longitude and had a hard time finding a script to do it in Airtable + Google Maps API. I found this awesome script but had to modify it to only run on a particular view so that it didn't hit the automation / script limits.  One of my clients, an American production company, was spending a lot of time on invoices to the detriment of their high-value work – the production of corporate videos and ads. Consequently, to help them refocus on their core mission, I created for them a set of automations that streamline their invoice management system: data entry for inbound invoices, document generation and sending for outbound invoices. Hi! I am brand new to Airtable (and admittedly, brand new to the tech world in general), so I wanted to share my first project and get some feedback/suggestions. Some background on the project: My dad’s company is built almost entirely out of google drive and he is wanting to start transitioning over to Airtable to automate some processes that are currently being done tediously by his HR team. One of these tasks is keeping employees’ contact info updated regularly. Right now, this is being done by HR reaching out to employees individually to see if their info has changed and then manually updating in google sheets. This article shows how to generate a PDF based on one of the DynamicDocs JSON to PDF templates from Airtable. PDF generation is done by setting up a script which can be prompted with a button. The script creates a JSON with underlying data from Airtable and uses DynamicDocs API to generate the PDF. The PDF is then downloaded and put into the Airtable attachment field. What is DynamicDocs API?DynamicDocs API is JSON to PDF API based on LaTeX that allows users to generate dynamic PDF documents in a matter of seconds. How to group rows by date so that groups are formed by day, without taking into account time. To get a group of October 4 with 2 rows and October 5 with 2 rows. I understand that the question is in the time display, but if you make a separate column with the formula DATETIME_FORMAT({Posting Time}, 'DD MM YY') and then group by it, then the program takes the date for text and sorts without taking into account the month, only by day.

I've gotten a lot of help from the community, and I'd like to offer something in return.  I was able to author a script that autonumbers a counter field for my detail records based on the group field of the parent record.  This is my first working script and I'm sure it has issues, so use carefully.  I'm sure better versions of this exist on marketplace or someplace, but I couldn't find.  I've submitted it to the marketplace, not sure if it's worthy of them listing it though.  It was a painful learning process to get working, but it does do what I need now. 🙂PS, I know airtable doesn't have a concept of "secondary key" (as in subject), but I think people like me that come from a SQL background might search on thatThe high level of this use case is I have a board meeting each month (Meeting is primary key of parent record).
