I don’t understand why this was flagged. Hi Airtable! I have a scenario that places data into GS, using a public API and basic trigger with a collection of arrays for tv shows data. I also wanted to use Airtable in the scenario, too. When I run the scenario I get these errors in the GS modules: 400: INVALID_ARGUMENT - Requested writing within range [‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’!A2], but tried writing to column [B] RuntimeError 400: INVALID_ARGUMENT - Unable to parse range: ‘Big Hero 6: The Series’!A1 This is the scenario set-up: What does this mean? My calendar view has multiple entries of the same record based on multiple dates, but I can’t find a way to organize them based on the labels attributed to each date. To better understand here is how we organize (YouTube video scheduling): Every record is a video the we will write the script, shoot, edit, and publish. Inside the record there are date fields for each of the steps needed. On the calendar view, each of those dates is a date range with a different label, so the calendar shows multiple times the same record based on the date of the production step needed. We used to achieve this using two tables, one for the videos and another for the steps. Then, each step was linked to a record on the videos table. However, we started a new base using only one table and multiple date ranges, as we migrated to a pro plan. (Also, no need to integrate with services like Napier or Integromat to auto create the steps needed for each video) My big problem is: I just can’t organize the entries d

I need to make a workspace where there will be a few different bases and with a bunch of different users not all having access to all bases. Some people will need access to the whole workspace, but then there is some that only will need access to 2 out of 3 bases within the workspace. What I can’t figure out is how Airtable calculates usage if the same person will be invited to 2 bases will that count as 2 x user or will it calculate as one user as it’s the same user within the one workspace?

I’m trying to design a tasks table that allows tasks to specify what tasks are blocking them, and then calculates a priority score based on this. So, ideally: Each task has a “Link to” type field that links to all tasks currently blocking it. Each task has a formula field that evaluates to zero if there is anything in the “Blocked by” field, and otherwise evaluates to a base number (say, 10) plus the sum of the priorities of all tasks it is currently blocking. (This is a minimal example. I plan on taking more things into account, such as time estimate, task staleness, etc. But if I can get it to do at least this, adding more factors shouldn’t be a problem.) I’m running into two problems: I don’t know how to look up the entries in the same table that are linking to the current entry. Airtable seems to block apparent circular references in formulas, even when those references don’t actually reference the current entry. I have found a few posts about this already, but none more recent than two years ago. I find this feature gap baffling, and I can’t imagine being able to use Airtable without it. My use-case is simple. I have an ever-growing list of sign-in for meetings. I want to have a separate membership table that has one row per unique person - a given person will sign in to many meetings - and, for example, a count of the number of meetings that person has attended. This is trivial to do with linked records and Rollup columns. However, as best as I can tell, for each new record in the source sign-in sheet, I have to manually add those linked records to the derived membership table. That is a nonstarter for me, and I have several other use-cases I was hoping to make after this prototype, but they all require this very simple feature. I don’t understand why a column can’t be set to automatically link to all records in a corresponding table. This is the most basic feature of any relational system. W

Love the Zapier integration, but without the ability to trigger on update/change/edit of a field, it’s pretty hard to keep other databases synced with Airtable - not sure if this my mistake or not. Additionally, I can’t move my system across to Airtable without the above feature or the option to run a Zapier zap on all database entires in a view/base. For example, if I want to email all my contacts, I can’t do that via Mail-Chimp etc, because the triggers only fire on creation of a record not on update/change/manual selection. Can you advise any workaround because this is one of only two barriers to me moving a client to your platform.

At the bottom of a linked record dialog box, a button shows, “+ Add new record” Anyone know if there is a keyboard shortcut for this button?

Hi All I have two tables in a base. One has a form where the data is entered. I do not care to see the tables because I have blocks create to visualize the data in the tables. I would like to set the dashboard as the main landing page for the base. Is there a way to change the settings in a base to have the dashboard be what you see when a base is launched? Emma

Is there a way to automatically copy values from one column into a linked column? Could I achieve this by having a formula in the linked column that copies data?

Hi fellow Airtablers, I have a large base with about 20+ tables and probably >15 fields in each, many of which are formula/lookup/rollup, so I frequently reference the base-schema block to see what fields are related before I make a change to the underlying structure. I’m struggling with the, seemingly random, directionality of the ‘dancing ants’/dashed line relationships. It doesn’t appear to be related to which direction the value is being pulled. Is there a way to have the block show the ‘precedents’ the way you can do in Excel? For example, I’d like to be able to tell if the field I’m hovering over in Table A is pulling in values from fields in Table B - or if the relationship is the opposite - if the field in Table A is actually being pulled into Table B. This would be especially useful for Formula fields that are based on other Formula fields or intra-table calculated/lookup fields. Is this feature already available and I’m missing it? For the last few days, when I try and download as CSV, it says “preparing CSV for download” but it never downloads. This is on Chrome Version 83.0.4103.44 (Official Build) beta (64-bit), Win 10 Both on desktop and laptop, and in incognito mode with no extensions etc. It DOES work in Firefox 76.0 (64-bit), and the only difference is that the error about the WSS connection isn’t present in Firefox. Hi All, I’m really loving Airtable so far. I just imported all of my old notes from a past DB, and am in the process of linking each note to each contact and database user. I’m kind of at a loss for how to link them an get expected behavior. Up-front, I currently have about 30k entries total… 13k contacts. 17k notes designated under Engagements. I see plenty of content on how to create inherently linked fields, and have that data flow through as you create new records. I also see plenty of examples of how the data is structured in templates. In my case, from my old DB, I have a unique ContactID, a unique OwnerID, and Unique Note IDs. I would assume that linking ContactID in my Engagements to Contacts would flow through, but somehow it created a brand new series of rows in my Contacts that are completely blank, except for that field… Only about 2k out of my 13k contacts. The problem I am facing is the fields that are “Linked to” are showing up encoded, I want it to show the actual result in the email. For exemple: Name: John Webb is showing up as Name: ecLSgtZ3ZsfIejGD Print screen added. Hope you can help me find a solution for this. Thank you in advance.

I want to share a view with an external collaborator, so they can see a limited set of data from my base. I also want them to be able to update/edit only a single field in those records they can see in their view - ie they cannot create. anew record, then can only update existing records through editing a single field. Is that possible to achieve?

I’m new to Airtable. Is there a way to mark an ongoing due date so that it shows up in calendar view say every two weeks on the same day? For example, if I need to design and send out an email blast for a client every week on Wednesday, could I somehow mark the record to show up on the calendar every week? Thanks!

I would like to create a daily log to track how often I got up from my desk to take a brief walk. How would I go about counting the number of times I did it? Here’s what I did so far: Row A (“Date”) Column 1 (Checkbox) Column 2 (Checkbox) Column 3 (Checkbox) Column 4 (Inserted this Formula: SUM({Break1}+{Break1}+{Break1}) It seems like overkill, though, to have to create a new column to track each activity. Is there a simpler way I can do this?

I’d like to embed a view of a specific record on another web site. I’d like to specify the record id / view id on the URL so I don’t have to create a custom view for each record, which is a waste of time. Ideally, I’d like to just embed in an < iframe > the expanded view of a specific record in a view. Hi all i have tried to “send a record” from a couple of my bases both in free workspaces and a pro plan and i never receive the email i get the pop up of the record enter the email and send and that is the last i see of it. is there something i need to set up? or am i not doing something ? I am using Airtable to collaborate with a group of people with varying permission levels. In some instances as we are working on updates to the Base content, we only want certain permission levels to see the updates being made whilst the rest of the Base should still be accessible to the team. Once these updates are complete, I would then want to publish them for all in the Base to see. Ie. is there an option to add things which only certain permission levels can see and which others (with reduced permission levels) who already have access to the Base can not see until it is ‘published’ for others in the Base to view?
