Base Design

I have been using Airtable for a little while and can get the basics of what I need.  However, I'm now getting much more complex with multiple bases linked together and I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to link my tables together.   In a perfect world I will have a table called Customers which has the name of each customer as the primary field.     What are best practices for keeping this up to date?  If I add a new record (customer) to Customers table, how do I ensure that it will add that customer to all the linked tables?  Do I use a formula for the primary key in additional tables and then an automation that runs a script once a day to sync?  It seems like there has to be another way.  Any help is appreciated! 

While working in a Timeline view, is there a way to select a record and alt-click-shift drag to duplicate? Moving a record between swimlanes is a convenient action. Duplicating a record by clicking the three dots to the right of "expand" and choosing duplicate is convenient action. It would be really handy to just alt-click-shift-drag a record or records to duplicate it in the same swimlane or another swimlane.Certainly, I'm not the only user who might find this helpful.Thanks!

Hi folks, It's just a simple question that I wasn't able to find an answer inside Airtable documentation. Is there a maximum number of files allowed in an attachment field? Or is it tied to the max size limit of 5GB?Thanks

I have a table from Base A that I've synced to Base B. I no longer need this specific table in Base B, so I would like to delete it. If I delete the synced table in Base B, will it also be deleted in Base A?I checked different threads and couldn't find a definite answer and I definitely don't want to proceed until I know for sure.  Thank you!

I'm creating a workflow/process tracker using Airtable. I have the following tables:WorkflowsStepsWorkflow RunsStep RunsThe Workflows table contains a list of workflow names, e.g. "New client onboarding workflow".The Steps table contains all the steps within each workflow and I have a link back to the workflow table to know which step relates to which workflow.I have automations in place so that when someone wants to run the workflow it will add a record to the Workflow Runs table and then another automation that will pull all the steps from the Steps table and add them to the Step Runs table linked back to the relevent row in the Workflow Run table.This has allowed me to create an interface where anyone can see the progress of the Workflow Runs and Step Runs that they're assigned to.What I'm struggling with is how I can add unique sub-steps to each step similar to how it is done on the dedicated workflo

Ok, I'm trying to build a product catalog and inventory management Airtable. I'm trying to work out the basic structure before I get too deep into adding all of my stuff.We have components, with a Part #, which are sometimes sold on their own as a SKU.We have Products, which are made up of multiple components, sometimes more than one quantity of each component in a product. These are sold as a SKUWe have Bundles, which are made up of multiple SKUs.I want to bring in data from another source which shows SKUs sold by SKU and quantity (some are bundles, some are components, some are products), and I want to be able to drill down to the number of each component sold from that same data.Any suggestions here?

I've been building interfaces that have "add record" buttons in them, and because of that I've realized that I've miscategorized some primary record fields for what a record is called when I first created a table. For a table that is based on personnel records I somehow selected "company" from the dropdown list when I first made the table and now in the interface for a personnel record I have a button that displays "Add Company". Ideally I could change the "What should each record be called?" option in each table, but I'm not seeing any way to do this once the table is created and the initial selection is made. Alternatively, I would love to be able change it to "Add Person" as one of the options in the interface designer, but doesn't appear that's an option either.Does anyone know a way to do this either in the interface designer or after a table has been created?

I would love to have Airtable help me to map out the prerequisites for an academic program but I'm having a little bit of trouble. Imagine a list of courses - some are required for the program, some are electives, etc... Many of these courses have prerequisites. For example, before you take course F, you have to have already taken course B.If it were that simple, I'd be able to use the flow chart extension to map everything. Unfortunately, it gets a little complicated when prerequisites include multiple courses and even "this OR that" cases. For example, "before you take course F, you must have taken both course A AND course B OR you must have taken course C". I tried to use different fields for each case with an "or". For example:Multiple Linked Field 1 includes "Course A" and "Course B" records.Multiple Linked Field 2 includes "Course C" record. This would indicate that you must take Course A AND B OR Course C. The problem I'

It would be awesome if Airtable added 'This Year' and 'This Month' to the filters. This way, I could create a view of records, like expenses or invoices, that apply to this month or year. I'm actually surprised this is not already a feature. It seems like it would be a simple addition.

We would benefit greatly if a timeline view could be set to week (or preferably a user-selectable qty of days) but still show the records by hour. Today it seems to be only possible to show records by hour when in the single day view. When using any date setting other than Day, even if something is only 9-11am on a given day, it will simply show as an all-day event. This is not effective for scheduling events that are not all day, or, in our case, events that occur through the night.The calendar view does have a 3-day option that can be shown by hour, but it does not allow for grouping so the calendar view is not an appropriate solution for resource planning.

Hello!I would like to figure out how to share a database between two users for personal use. The paid plans that allow for Airtable Sync are a bit too expensive for me to be able to justify for just this use, so I would like to understand what my other options are.To expand on the use case, I would like to set up a career search workspace. In this workspace, two users that are applying to the same companies (and sometimes the same jobs) would be able to track applications, interview, and job offers for various jobs across different companies. I am envisioning a base that contains a "Companies" table and a "Jobs" table. Each job, when entered via a form, would be marked as being applicable to one or both of the users. These jobs would then sync to the applicable user(s)'s unique Application-tracking database. Hi everyone,I have a start and end date field in one of my tables and I am trying to find a way to get airtable to tag each month within the range. Essentially I want to know how many were active between 8/30/2019 and 7/31/2020. I haven't been able to figure out the filters because if a record was 7/30/2019-9/1/2020, it wouldn't show up. My workaround is getting the months range and then I can use that multiple select field to do the filtering.Any suggestions?Thank you in advance

First time poster here and beginner in AirTable!I am trying to create a generic Employee table. This table would have all the generic info about an Employee (i.e. Name, Address, Phone, etc). I am then trying to create other tables that would contain specific type of info for the Employee type that they are. An example of this would be a Driver table. A Driver is an Employee but I want to have more specific data about them like Type (i.e. OTR, Regional, etc.), Truck Assigned To, etc. I created an Employee table and then a Driver table in the Driver table I linked back to the Employee table and brought in all the redundant data. I then added in the additional columns that I needed, that are specific to a Driver on the end of the table. The problem is I want to create a form that makes it very easy to someone to create a Driver without having to create an Employee and a Driver. I hope this makes sense! 

The attachment field, specifically for image generation, is populating at such a micro size. Typically, you can at least see a bit of a preview but on my most recent bases it's microscopic. Is there a way to enlarge (5x or more) the image preview within the Attachment field? Attached is a photo of the current view (Red Base) and a previous client's view (Green Base) where the preview was more appropriate. 

My base is a table copied from and synced to another source base. Is there a way to break the sync with the source base but still retain the data so that I may edit the table?

Hi Airtable community,  I'm new to airtable and your classic overthinker and I'm having a difficult time designing a simple Lunch Order Base. I read lots of articles and asked AI chat bots and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I have to collect lunch orders for a list of attendees over a 3 day conference. Data I have:1. List of attendees names, allergy concerns and their emails addresses. 2. I know which days they are coming (some are coming for the full 3 days while others are opting for partial attendance). 3. We will be ordering from 2 - 3 different restaurants. Hi there!  We're setting up a volunteer shift database for a large festival. I assume we can let volunteers sign up for shifts using forms, but is there a way for them to change/drop shifts without having to email us to do it on the backend? If not, is there an extension that would help?

On table A, I've added a linked record field to table B. On table A, I can add lookup fields from the linked record on table B.But on table B, I cannot add lookup fields:> No available sources to look up. Add a lookup source, then try to configure your lookup again.I created a new linked record field with the same configuration on table A and the lookup works both way. Is there a way to fix my original field to work both way too? 

Hi (newbie here),Can you do a rollup on a Lookup field in a different grid?I have a table of employees.  There is a table of Trips where we look up the employees from the employee table.  Then I have a Departures Table that pulls in the Employee information from the Trips table. Now I would like to do a count(rollup) of the number of departures each employee has.I am having problems figure out how do this.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,My sister operates a bakery from her home, and I want to make things easier for her by creating a system in Airtable where she can take orders for her products.As a bonus I'd like to be able to track repeat orders from customers as a way to determine customer preferences, habits, trends, etc.There are a few problems I'm finding with this. Airtable has no way for customers to "make an account" so to speak. I'm inclined to create a table for customers, but...Customers would need to complete a separate form if they're a new customer, then come back to the order form, which feels cumbersome.For each customer that already exists in the base, Airtable will reveal all of the names in the customer table whenever a returning customer begins to search for their name, which just doesn't sit right.We could simply request name and phone number each time, but I'm not sure if that will allow me to combine those records based on phone number
