:wave: Hey there! Im trying to learn more about Airtable best practice in terms of overall schema/base design and structure. My question is: How can I more quickly add data to tables and cut out some manual work? Here’s the specific context. I currently have a document with three tables Students (Database table, one record per student) Classes (Database table, one record per class) Enrollments (Junction table, handling the many-many relationships between students and classes) Currently, the junction table only has three columns (Name, Student, Class) But to add a New Enrollment, it feels very clunky and like there is a lot of manual work. You have to select both the student and the class each time. What If I need to add a lot of students to classes at once? Is there any easy way to do that? For example, could I batch select 35 students and with one action add them all to a target class? What if I want to continually add x amount of students to the beginner class? Is there an ea

I am adding records for user profiles. Records are only going to be name and email address until the user logs in to update with additional information. I have one field set up as an attachment, and a user can upload an image to use as an avatar. I would like to set up a default image as a placeholder. I have a view in the user table as ‘attachment field is blank’ to filter out the new records without an avatar, and created a separate table with one record that contains the placeholder image in an attachment field. How do I set up the automation to pull the placeholder image over to the blank attachment field? I was thinking to trigger ‘when record enters a view’ but I can’t figure it out from there. I’ve built an app that allows users in my base to select a record in a certain table. I’m using GlobalConfig to store the ID of that record. However, when I first publish the app to my base I get an error because the GlobalConfig does not yet have an ID stored. So when do useRecordById, I get an error like this: “getRecordById expects a string” because there is no record ID stored in GlobalConfig, since a user has not yet selected one. When I tried putting useRecordById inside a conditional, I get an error because you can’t put hooks inside a conditional. What is the best way to get around this? Thanks!

It’s getting pretty insane with these new features being rolled out long enough to be excited about them then rolling them back. About to leave the platform and stop pushing it to clients over the BS Games. Really hope we get that great formula editor back some time soon. @Jordan_Scott1

Hi all, I have the last modified showing up as “Unknown” in a synced table and not sure what is causing this. Is this possibly the record coming from the other base not showing the creator, until someone updates possibly? Cheers

I’m experiencing a strange issue when I use a date in a formula (yes, I’m using timezones). If I include the time field in the date, then it displays correctly in the formula, but if I do not include time, then the formula displays the date minus 1. I do not want time because this is an invoice date. Halp.

The Vega-Lite app never gets past “Loading…” - no JSON. Any idea how to get this app operational? per the readme, I suppose I can try creating a new app with the SDK per the Vega-Lite github readme, but this seem rather obtuse :face_with_diagonal_mouth: Anyone know what’s wrong with the app, how to resolve or troubleshoot? I had a formula that was working until this week and has now broken for some reason. I looked into the basics (did the field names for the formula change, synced fields change, anything like that) but literally nothing about the components of the formula broke, so I’m unsure why it’s now resulting in #ERROR rather than the result. Formula below, it’s honestly incredibly basic. Any ideas for simple things I could be missing? DATETIME_PARSE(ARRAYJOIN({Release Date_static}), ‘MM-DD-YYYY’) Where {Release Date_static} is a lookup of a single line text field with a date in ‘YYYY-MM-DD’ format.

Dear community, can two unrelated conditions live in the same formula? Do they need to connected by the same first argument? I want "Sample Availability to read “Shop only” when there is no value in “SignOutIcon” In writing it would be: If SignOutIcon contains no value, return “Shop only”. If SignOutDate contains a value and ReturnDate contains no value, return “not in stock”, otherwise “available” With first argument the same, it would be If SignOutIcon contains no value, return “Shop only”. Getting into formula’s a bit more as a novice lately, but struggling to get this one right. Anyone able to help me out on this one? Anyone can help me make a formula to write out the below numbers in a Single Line text field (A) that are styled like below, to full digits in a Formula Field (B)? Field A 1 10 100 1k 10k 100k 1.1k 10.1k 100.1k 1M 1.1M Etc. So far I’ve come up to this formula. But it’s very lacking. SUBSTITUTE( Views, REGEX_EXTRACT({Views}, "\.\d+k"), "00") It outputs 100 when its 1.7k and doesn’t work at all for entries like 1 to 999 and 1M upwards.

So I have a base with 2 tables - one containing the funding round details (FRD) which includes name of Startup, amount and investor And another table solely for investors - which I wish to import data from Investors column in FRD table. Now, the investor in FRD is input as a long text which is comma separated. I wanted the Investor table to automatically import this data from investor column - and import it into separate rows - with startup name on the side. I know something like linked record exists, but even there I have to manually select the investor - whereas I simply copy and paste data from the net, thats why I want the investor column data to automatically be imported in the other table. Hi all, I’ve been using Airtable for a few years and have finally decided to try my hand at writing a few scripts to streamline our workflow. I’ve coded a fair amount before but am new to JavaScript, so please excuse my ignorance. My current project is writing a script that will be called from a button field. This script will make a request to a taxonomic database, retrieve classification data for a single creature, and populate a series of self-linked columns within the table. I have a working script that gathers the data and reformats, but I’m stumbling across the last step of assigning data to the linked fields. Throws this error after the last line: Can’t set cell values: invalid cell value for field ‘kingdom’. Cell value has invalid format: must be an array. Linked records field value must be an array of objects with property ‘id’ corresponding to linked record id. Hello! I’m relatively new to Airtable, but I’ve been digging to figure out a solution and haven’t come across anything workable yet. What I’m trying to do is set up skill profiles that contain different proficiencies in each profile. Example: I have 2 skills, Reading and Writing. I have 2 profiles, Researcher and Author. I have a proficiency rating, 1-3. Researcher profile has Reading at a 3, Writing at a 1. Author has both Reading and Writing at a 2. Right now I have a table of skills and a table of profiles with skills linked to them, but no way that I can find to do unique proficiency in each profile. Is there a good way I could set something like that up? The biggest challenge is I’m creating this for about 40 different profiles containing different mixes of about 300 skills. I’ve a feeling it’s not a possibility or if it is, maintenance would be a bear.

I want to set an automation that duplicates a record every time the original record is updated to status DONE. But I’m finding trouble. How could I set for TOMORROW the DATE FIELD of the new record created by the automation?

I put Value() around the whole thing and I’m getting errors in the records when doing that. Created date: Date the record was created Opportunity Close Date: Date the record was marked closed won I want to be able to sum and avg etc the column. Any help?

Hello everyone… I have two tables, the KPI table and the Months table. Each row in the KPI table has a month that is in the Months table. I want every time there is a change in the status column to ‘A’ in the month table, the month column in the KPI table also changes. I have tried to use automation, step 1 ‘when a record is updated’ then step 2 ‘find record’ on KPI table which is stsrec is N and ‘Update records’ KPI table based on automation step 1 but the result failed. We’ve created an address book of sorts, and I could use your help in creating a dynamic single-select field. Here’s the scenario: We have two tables: (1) tbl_organizations and (2) tbl_individuals. Any given organization may (and often does) have multiple individuals linked to it. However, we’d also like to designate one of these individuals as the primary contact for the organization. Here’s it written out as an example: Depp Organization is a record in tbl_organizations. It is linked to 3 records in tbl_individuals (Bob, Sue, and Timmy). Foo Organization is a record in tbl_organizations. It is linked to 2 records in tbl_individuals (Sally and John). I would like a create a field in the tbl_organizations. This field will be called something like “PrimaryIndividual.” PrimaryIndividual will populate with the individuals linked to their organization record (but no other individuals). Hey everybody, big Airtable fan here, we are managing a lot of processes for a concert venue with this awesome tool. Now we’re stuck with the following problem: People send data (some text fields, some attachments) via a form. This information is written into it’s own table (let’s call it “updates”). It can happen, that several people send different data to the same fields, for each submitted form a record is created. From “updates” this data is transferred into our “main table” via Automation UPDATE RECORD on trigger WHEN RECORD IS CREATED. We’ve also built a way to always keep the existing submitted informations if more is submitted to the same field by another form submission. So far so good. Uploaded Attachments can be JPG / PDF or similar, those shall be saved to the “main table” as well in the equivalent field. Now it’s getting tricky. As far as i have read it’s not possible to move the attachments from one table to another with an automation, so instead we are working with URL
